“NO APOLOGIES” by Brianna Yancey

“NO APOLOGIES” by Brianna Yancey is a song about devotion and honesty with lovely harmonies and captivating vocals inspired by 90s R&B. We had the pleasure of interviewing Brianna Yancey, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: What drives you to make music?

YANCEY: The love I have for it. Whenever I sing or write or even listen to music it makes me so happy and knowing that other people love my voice and it touches them drives me to want to be better and keep making music. This is a gift from God …makes me want to keep singing and writing songs!

Q: How are you hoping listeners will respond to “NO APOLOGIES”?

YANCEY: I hope listeners will love the twist to a 90’s R&b style and enjoy the neat harmonies and sneaky run throughs. I also hope the listeners can relate to any form of toxic relationships including family, friends, or partners, and realize it’s ok to not accept just any kind of disrespect or belittling. I also want to mention that mental health is very important and it’s good to take care of yourself even if that means removing someone or people out of your life!

Q: What was your best part about creating this song?

YANCEY: My favorite part was coming up with the harmonies and pretty melodies and just watching it all come together is very special to me.

Q: Can you walk us through the production process?

YANCEY: Yeah so it all starts with writing but in my case I start with the music. I come up with an idea then I let my producer know aka “my dad” and he makes me a beat then I start to write…book studio time…record my vocals…then I go through the mixing process. The mixing stage is when I get to perfect my vocals and use my creativity to make my vision come together. Lastly is Master and that’s the easy part by far! I would say I’m a very hands-on artist and love to be involved in the whole process and that’s something most people are surprised.

Q: Who is one artist you’d really love to work with? Why?

YANCEY: DEFINITELY DEFINITELY TORI KELLY…She is an icon! Her range is insane. I love her runs and riffs. I aspire to be able to sing with such seasoning.

Q: What was the first concert you ever went to? How do you think it has influenced your choice to be a musician?

YANCEY: Jamie Grace. I loved her music as a child and her songs were so touching and inspirational. She also seemed so relaxed on stage and confident. She made me want to spread that same positivity throughout my songs and to my fans. She also wrote her own music and played the guitar. I’ve found that I like singers who can play the guitar and I think it’s because their voice is sultry and flows with the music.
