“Never Meet Me” by Areo

Have you ever had a moment scrolling through Instagram and seen a brand new post of your ex with his next? You may be saying to yourself, “I’m way more sophisticated and better than her!” Well, “Never Meet Me” by Areo will have you shifting your confidence for the better and positively expressing your emotions. We had the pleasure of interviewing Areo, and here is what he had to say:

Q: How would you describe the music that you typically create? What was your creative process behind making “Never Meet Me”?

AREO:

If my music smelled, it would smell like freshly ground coffee beans. Warm and mature, yet playful and groovy with an uplifting attitude. I strive to create unique soundscapes within the cosmos of pop and house, translating my playful vision of rhythm and harmonies into his records to uplift, move and surprise the ears of my audience. So feel free to see my compositions as sonically moving pictures and immersing yourself into them. In that sense, “Never Meet Me “was such a fun one to create. I wanted to lift up the captivating top line with an energetic yet minimalistic melody and came up with an ear worm- worthy bass sequence sitting underneath an organic percussion supporting the vocals to groove even more. The melody had to sound somewhat confident as the vocals have such a conceited attitude due to the main theme of an angry ex-girlfriend imaginary talking to the new girlfriend with an “I’m better than you, you should never meet me “attitude. You know that she is sad yet she deals with it in a “You can’t reach me “- manner. I loved that scheme and thrived on letting the instrumental be in the same lane as the top line. I experimented a lot with variously pitched open hats, and in the end, I came up with a modern and in my opinion unique record. I hope you dig it as well!

Q: What first got you into music?

AREO: Thanks to my parents, I connected to musical experiences from an early age on. Both of them are guitarists, which guided me towards this instrument since my first days. I finally got my first guitar when I was four years old and have played it ever since. Until today I’m totally in love with the guitar, I even earned my first money teaching it to other pupils during high school.

Q: Who are your musical influences?

AREO: It started with artists like Eric Clapton and Lynyrd Skynyrd to dive into making music (mainly on guitar), yet my modern sound evolved around artists such as Kerala Dust, Christopher Schwarzwälder, Elderbrook, Kyle Watson, Nu Aspect and Crooked Colours.

Q: When will your next album or EP be released?

AREORight now I’m focused on the upcoming releases in spring, yet I invite everyone to follow my journey on Instagram: @areomusic_ to keep up with what’s planned for the summer and the rest of 2023 – Trust me, some very exciting things will be announced soon!

Q: I’ve noticed that your EP covers consist of different art abstracts. Do you make your EP covers, and outside of music, do you have a gift in art?

AREOI‘m a huge fan of Antibe line art and wanted to incorporate that as part of my brand by using minimalistic line art. It looks mature, leaves space for interpretation and relates to the record in a minimalistic way. I write with several artists to fulfill my cover vision on platforms like Etsy, Fiverr and Instagram since I’m not a talented visual artist at all. Feel free to visit my homepage areomusic.com for additional thoughts on the artworks and records itself and moreover see the artworks on a bigger scale to fully experience the beauty of them.

Q: What’s next for you?

AREO: I have some tremendously exciting records in the pipeline! I worked with some well-known artists on tracks and was lucky to get our finalized work signed on amazing record labels to spread the vibe. I’m not allowed to say more for now but stay tuned, you don’t want to miss out what’s yet to come!
