“Long Time Honey” – Fox and Bones

With electric energy and a dynamic sound, Fox and Bones is set to release their fourth album Long Time Honey available on May 17th. The folk duo is comprised of Scott Gilmore and Sarah Vitort and the pair has released three critically acclaimed projects already. Their third album, American Alchemy, was met with high praise by publications like American Songwriter Magazine. Currently Fox and Bones are preparing to tour 8 US east coast cities in support of Fantastic Cat, adding more shows to their impressive 1000+ show experience.

Long Time Honey kicks off with the song “All On Red” and it is about getting up when you get knocked down. The track has a strong Americana vibe, standing alongside the likes of Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile. The duo’s clever writing was paired with award-winning singer/songwriter Greg Holden, who has contributed to smash hits like Phillip Phillips’s “Home.” The storytelling in the lyricism is inspired, taking a clever spin on the gambling references.

The project’s lead single “Don’t Do Nothing” is also the closing track on the 10 track LP. The song opens up with soft guitars and Gilmore’s emotional, powerful voice. Lyrically, it is an anthem about how change is inevitable, and risks make life worth living. The hook echoes this point by saying, “if you don’t do nothing / nothing’s gonna come to you / and if you don’t say something / someone’s gonna say it for you.” Gilmore’s rasp coats the song with personality and the production surrounds his vocals beautifully.

“Over The Edge” showcases the rich, sultry vocals of Sarah Vitort. Vitort’s slight twang and vulnerable writing gives the song a country leaning feel. She pours her heart out singing, “I’ve tried them all but these distractions never help / never had much luck finding peace in someone else.” The production enhances Vitort’s softer side with tambourines and soft guitars to accompany her. The song progressively builds with Vitort shouting she’s going over the edge, losing herself in the moment.

Overall, the album sets out to tell a story full of heart and passion and does just that. The duo has undeniable chemistry and raw talent pouring out of them. They are able to bottle it up in such a way that everyone can take something from it. Songwriting is truly at the root of what they do, and it is evident throughout their work on Long Time Honey. Be sure to listen to the album when it releases on May 17th!
