“Lighthouse” – GAELN

We had the pleasure of interviewing GAELN, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: What drives you to create music?

GAELN: I think for me music is a direct line to my soul. It’s who I am and how I see the world. Music was the only way I could express my deepest emotions and thoughts. I love storytelling and each song is a story in some way for me.

Q: At what point did you decide that you want to be a musician? And how did your family react to this?

GAELN: I’ve always had music in my body since a young age, I was a drummer first and so I developed my sense of rhythm through that and then eventually the voice came later through choir training. We grew up listening to all different kinds of music growing up; Sting was a big one. He made me hear music in a different way and inspired my desire to write!

My folks have been nothing but supportive since day one, they keep pushing me to keep going and keep releasing music. I’m beyond grateful for them.

Q: I thought the songwriting was beautiful. What inspired “Lighthouse”?

GAELN: Thank you! That means so much. Honestly, Lighthouse came from being in a relationship that was weighing heavy on me emotionally for quite some time. This person was suffering from depression and kept pushing me away and started to become inconsolable. I remember feeling determined to be there for them and help guide them back to who they were or who I thought they were. Reminding them of the joy and love we once had.

Q: What impact do you hope to have with your music?

GAELN: I hope that I can help people feel something with my music. Whatever that is. Whether it’s a similar experience they’ve once had they can relate to or they find themselves connecting to the melody in some way.

Q: In what way(s), do you think your sound has evolved since you started making music?

GAELN: I love 2 things about music. I love the recording process, piecing together a song like a puzzle and having it turn into something big from just a small, simple idea. But I also love, and will always love, the power of being in a live room and having an audience be right there with you and your storytelling. There is truly magic there. The not-so-great aspect is the necessary evil that is social media and how we all want to take breaks from it but need it as a business. I still love connecting with people live and not on the camera so I will always find that medium hard even though I still do it!

Q: What is one thing you’re really looking forward to achieving this year?

GAELN: A Big goal of mine was to get an EP out there and I’m proud to say that that is happening in the fall! After having 3 singles out, I set out to do my first EP and now Lighthouse is the first single of many from my upcoming EP titled ‘Old Muse’. Releasing fully in October 2023. ???? I told myself I was doing it and I made it happen. I’m very excited to share more of my music with the world.
