“It’s AlgoRhythmic!” – Today’s Outfit

Known for their anthemic sound and unique instrumentation, Today’s Outfit is gearing up to release their next record It’s AlgoRhythmic! on October 9th, 2023. The band’s thought-provoking new album plans to comment on the modern world – with the effects of social media. Diving deeper, they want to discuss the shortening of attention spans and loss of privacy. The first single “Best Seats in the House” was released on August 8th and accompanied by a music video.

The whole record encompasses a vintage/prog rock sound while infusing modern day influences. Each song transforms the conversation of the pros and cons of social media. With a groovy bassline and a taunting hook, “Like A Dinosaur,” reminds the listener they will fall behind if they fail to play the social media game. The number of social media apps constantly launching in the app store only make it harder and harder to keep up. The rough vocals have a fun edge and really help plea to the listener that this is what they have to do.

“Best Seats in the House” and “Metacops” are both standouts from the album. “Best Seats in the House” has a Bleachers inspired feel an upbeat sound and unique vocal melody. The lead single is the perfect way to introduce the listeners to this record and will only excite audiences for the full release in October. “Metacops” highlights the band’s crafty anthemic choruses. They found a catchy way to talk about how weak data protection is – which is not an easy feat. The 80s sound of synths and drums is reminiscent to a Police song.

The title track “It’s AlgoRhythmic!” dives into the conversation of social media addiction and how much we rely on it to be happy. The band specifically targets the app TikTok, referencing how the AI wants us to dance for them since we have been mindlessly watching others dance for hours on end. Going from long form content down to seconds at a time. They play up the robotic sound and feel – playing with synths and more digital sounds throughout. Excellently captures the reality of social media and how the realest thing is what we have lost to it.

The album itself takes the listener on a journey from start to finish. Building a conversation about the much-needed awareness and change that needs to happen. From social media addiction to the weakness of data protection. Rock music has always been progressive – finger on the pulse – and Today’s Outfit fits right in with the rebellion.
