“I Believe God” by Jekayln Carr

As a gospel singer-songwriter, Jekalyn Carr’s new song, “I Believe God,” gives us hope and faith to believe in our Creator. Since following Carr’s career for years, we have seen numerous dedications, creative imaginations, tireless labors on behalf of humanity, and her faith in God. These dedications have pushed her to the top. We had the pleasure of interviewing Jekayln, and here is what she had to say:

Q: Hi Jekayln, welcome to the Music and Fashion Blog! I’m honored to do this interview with you. I’ve been listening to your music since your album “Greater Is Coming”. You’ve been singing since five. Did you imagine you would be where you are today? Having been an artist for so long, what are three major lessons you have learned?

JEKAYLN: Hello and thank you so much for having me. I never imagined I would be here in this capacity. As a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of inspiring people. However, I never knew THIS level or place existed for me until God elevated me here.

Three major lessons I’ve learned are, be humble, be consistent, and always be willing to learn. I’ve discovered that sometimes humility can take you further than you just having a gift or talent. Secondly, being consistent shows stability, accountability, and responsibility. Lastly, having a heart to learn always keeps you advancing and occupying places you never thought you could. Learning produces growth!

Q: What have been some of your difficulties in the music industry as a gospel artist?

JEKAYLN: As for difficulties, I honestly can say I haven’t had any because I came in being fully aware of who I am and what I’m supposed to do. I was taught as a little girl about “the process”. So, I’ve always felt that in God’s timing, everything that’s for ME will happen for me.

Q: “I Believe God” was powerful because many people are losing hope that God is not here for them. You bring back the truth of trusting and believing God through your song. What inspired you to create this project?

JEKAYLN: So what inspired “I Believe God” is basically me having the desire to see people experiencing this God who never disappoints. So many times when we struggle through tough times, a lot of people feel like there’s nothing more to life. They feel like that’s the way it’s supposed to be their entire life. However, “I BELIEVE GOD” is to help them understand and know that God wants to give you his best. He wants to show you differently. He wants to change your view of whatever it is that you want to see happening in your life. All He requires you to do is believe.

Yes, sometimes people say “it is easier said than done”, however I’d rather believe God and get results than not believe and stay where I am. This song is not just for believers, it’s even for the unbelievers, to people in general. This is so that they can know and see that God wants to see you restored, your families made whole, your life restored, your dreams restored.

Q: You have performed with some Gospel legends. Tell us about one of your favorite memories?

JEKAYLNMy favorite memory is when I performed “Mary, Don’t You Weep” with Pastor Shirley Caesar at Carnegie Hall before my performance. It was so monumental and beautiful at the same time.

Q: Could you give us some spiritual advice for up-and-coming artists that are trying to balance their walk with God and continue to strive as artists?

JEKAYLNI think it’s very significant to make sure you never become bigger than your purpose. Understanding that God has trusted you with the mantle, the grace, the anointing you have because someone needs what’s in you. So, you have to handle it carefully. No, you’re not perfect however the goal is to make sure you do your best to be a positive example that will cause positive change. Keep the right people around you that can encourage that as well. People that love and value you enough to correct you out of love when you’re wrong. That’s also one of the keys to longevity. Keep in mind, you want to be around for a long time, not just for a moment.

Q: Your style is out of this world and you don’t come to play, you come to slay. If you could campaign for any brand, who would you choose?

JEKAYLN: Thank you so much! I think I’d have to say myself! Lol I love fashion and who knows? I may have my own line one day. Until then, Alexander McQueen
