“Focus on You” – THE SOCIAL

The slow yet quick build-up when play is pressed on “Focus on You” by THE SOCIAL has got to be the highlight of my week as this invigorating moment of music is one that doesn’t beg to be repeated. Oh no, it’s one of those songs that listeners will be scurrying to play again, and again, and again.

At its core “Focus on You” explores the narrative of what it’s like to try and rewrite a love story, but what sticks out in this track is the way THE SOCIAL presents a song that is an energetic pop of sultry goodness. “Focus on You” is one of those songs that THE SOCIAL may never shake from their setlist, for good reason. It’s a party starter, but that’s no surprise judging from their past releases. Giving way to indie rock that isn’t afraid to lean into pop hooks and delightful instances of dance vibes, THE SOCIAL brings it like The 1975 and MGMT. So if those are bands that already live on your playlists, it’s time to add another.

“Focus on You” is the latest release from the Los Angeles-based band. It is their first of 2022 and follows the release of their debut EP, 2020’s ‘Strawberry Valley Drive.’ THE SOCIAL spent some time in April playing a handful of shows up and down the California coast in San Francisco and Santa Cruz. They’ll celebrate the release of their new single at El Cid back at home on April 14th. Tickets can be found here.
