“Double-Edge Sword” by Minimalist x Martin Oet x Fantastic Mr Marcel

“Double-Edge Sword” is the latest collaboration between long-time collaborators, Minimalist, Martin Oet, and Fantastic Mr Marcel. It is an addictively ear-pleasing song that is haunting while also being upbeat, and telling a tale of hope and love. It would easily fit on a James Bond or Suits soundtrack. You will want to leave this one on replay. We had the pleasure of interviewing Minimalist, and here’s what he had to say:

Q:  I loved the smooth production of “Double Edge Sword”! What inspired this song?

MINIMALIST: Thank you! This song was inspired by so many things. The production definitely has some James Bond vibes, and that’s something we channelled with the lyrics too. Hopefully, the song means something different to everyone who hears it, but for me, it’s about those people in your life you turn to when life gets hard. The ones who you would do anything for, and you know will be around forever. It’s about feeling that love even when for some reason the bond with that person is causing you some pain.

Q: What is your favorite memory from making this song?

MINIMALIST: Definitely recording it. We were so lucky to record it in the studio where Skepta & JME recorded “THAT’S NOT ME” one of the best grime songs to ever come out of the UK.

Q: How did this collaboration between Minimalist, Martin Oet, and Fantastic Mr Marcel come to be?

MINIMALIST: We’d been writing together for a bit on each other’s projects but we all wanted to do a track together. Theon and I had already got a verse and the hook written for this track so we played it for Matt and he sent us his verse right away. We’ve recorded a few more songs together so listen out for more later in the year.

Q: If you had to pick only one song to listen to for the rest of the year, what would you pick? Why?

MINIMALIST: The Machine Florence album came out last year…. but ‘Borstal’ by those guys is on repeat for me at the moment!

Q:  What aspect of your musical journey are you looking forward to the most this year? Why?

MINIMALIST: More recording, more releases. We have a lot to come!

Q: What would you like to say to your supporters?

MINIMALIST: Thank you and keep listening!
