“Am I Wrong” by Jonahh

Norwegian artist, Jonahh, recently released a new single, “Am I Wrong,” which is the first single of his upcoming third EP. It is a captivating pop tune, and if you’ve ever met a stranger who didn’t feel like a stranger, who you instantly connected with, but for some reason, you didn’t get their name and you have no means of contacting them, you’ll understand Jonahh’s attempt to reconnect with the mystery girl he met over summer. We had the pleasure of interviewing Jonahh, and here’s what he had to say:

Q:  I enjoyed the catchy beats and expressive lyricism! What’s the story behind this song and what are you hoping to achieve with it?

JONAHH: Thank you!!! Well, the story is just that I met this girl last summer. I felt like we really hit it off, and I haven’t been able to get her off my mind since. So I wrote the song and wanted to release it in hopes of she might find it or hear it. Also, the cover art I chose for the song is a picture that was taken the same day as I met her so I hope she’ll recognise me.

Q: Wow! Good luck with that! I hope she sees this and hears this song. Can you walk me through the production of this song?

JONAHH: We wanted to use some simple uplifting chords, but make it more playful by putting some percussive elements a little off the beat. This gave us the feeling of a more chill tune, but also very easy to dance to. We also used some lo-fi elements to give the song some dynamics and character. I really love experimenting with different styles, and so does Malthe Seierup, my producer. We had the best time making this song.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of this song?

JONAHH: My favourite aspect of the song is the story as well as how fun it is to sing and dance to. Since the story is very much written from a personal perspective of a real-life situation I am currently going through, it just feels right.

Q: Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you said “this is what I want to do. I’m going to be a musician”?

JONAHH: You could say I got into the game a little late, but I guess it was during the lockdown when I and my best friend hung out in the studio every day and I started writing. After showing demos to friends and family, the recognition gave me the boost I desperately needed after having “wasted” the early part of my 20s. I also need to mention the first time I played my own show and had people in the audience sing along to my songs, was probably one of the moments when I realised that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I have had a lot of lucid dreams where I am flying, and being on stage is the closest I’ll ever be to having that feeling wide awake.

Q:  If you could collaborate with any artist in the world—dead or alive—who would you love to work with? Why?

JONAHH: Astrid S, hands down. She just makes pop music so great that I never get tired of listening to it. To have a day in the studio with her would be a dream come true.

Q: What would you love to say to your supporters?

JONAHH: I LOVE YOU!!! It’s impossible for me to explain how much it means to have people enjoy my music and relate to it. Everything I write is about how I’m experiencing life as a young adult going through all the highs and lows. Thank you so much for listening and supporting and letting me be able to do what I love the most!
