“Alt Du Kan Se” – KEiiNO

If you’re a lover of pop music, but you’re in the mood for something a little different, give “Alt Du Kan Se” by KEiiNO a try. With a splash of English, traditional Norwegian singing styles, and a whole lot of groove changes, this song is truly more of an experience than a piece of music. It’ll keep you engaged, alert, and ready for pretty much anything. The female vocalist paints these beautiful AURORA-esque melodies as a male vocalist harmonizes. It’s dreamy. It’s anthemic. It’s an absolute work of art.

It begins with a few spacey synths and a whispery vocal. A call-and-response occurs between the two vocal timbres–one performing high-pitched, legato lines and the other responding with a traditional Norwegian motif. Piano twinkles ornament the downbeat, keeping the rhythm moving forward. A solid, harmonized melody comes in, trickling down this ominous yet incredibly gratifying scale. A percussive fill ushers in a pulsing synth, thusly thickening the rhythmic integrity.

As the song continues on, we’re gifted with a lot of feel changes, from a swung, driving groove to a soft, straight beat. We also switch to English for just a moment, at which point the melody crawls into the stratosphere, showcasing the singers’ quite frankly insane belting abilities. The drama is extremely tangible, filling the air with urgent chord progressions and impassioned vocal performances. It’s rare to find something this drenched in theatrics that isn’t corny, but KEiiNO accomplishes it. Be sure to check this track out. You’ll get the ride of your life!
