Moon Machine’s new release, “Aether,” is here to prove that the psychedelic scene isn’t dead with its use of vintage equipment and modern production style.
“Aether” has everything that makes a psychedelic track great. It has great experimentation and a dynamic flow from start to finish, all packed with loads of atmosphere. The mix is great, allowing several guitar layers to jump out in different parts of the soundscape. The way it flows builds into a sense of introspection, which makes it stand out as a track to either vibe out or get lost in deep thought to. The vocals are washed out, which plays into this vibe, but they are still produced and mixed in a way that gives clarity. Lyrically, it builds a sense of connection and yearning. “Cause if there’s something out there for you / There’s something out there for me / All I know that is true / I wanna be there with you,” it repeats.
The 5-piece Moon Machine recorded “Aether” at the same time in the same room. Every bit of technology used in the process was analog equipment straight out of the 70s. Using this nostalgic equipment pays great homage to the original psychedelic scene, and it plays into the feeling that said original scene built. The band wrote this track to help break the ego and build acceptance.
“Aether” is available today, and Moon Machine has an upcoming Album on May 1.
