“Love & Loss” – Marilyn Hucek

Walk the thin line between grief and joy with Marilyn Hucek’s new EP Love and Loss, out now. The singer-songwriter shares stories of her everyday life while tackling those big difficult situations. Her raw emotion and style line her up with rising pop stars like Maisie Peters, Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo.

Hucek’s style is singer-songwriter meets rock pop. The opening track “Man of The House” is an acoustic ballad where Hucek wears her heart on her sleeve. She waits up for someone who will never come. The softness of her voice is almost close to tears. A standout lyric in the chorus is. “I’m the man of the house now / I’ve got something to prove / I’m the man of the house now / stepping into your shoes.” She proves she is a clever lyricist with something real to say.

“I Tried” shows a real side to Hucek, saying her ex-lover made her feel naïve and in love – but in hindsight it feels untrue. She goes through the motions of dating guys with strange hobbies and going on dating apps, but she can’t forget about her past lover. The song has strong guitar and driving drums like something that could be found on an early Avril Lavigne record.

Overall, the EP delivers exactly what it promises, a young girl showing her struggles of love and loss and what it is like in between all the growing pains. Hucek shows real passion and talent. She is most definitely one to continue to watch and support.
