“Tarifa” – Blanco White

Embracing the sounds of Tarifa, UK singer-songwriter Blanco White has released his sophomore album of the same name. White was inspired to work on this project after traveling through Spain, South America, and North Africa, and this inspiration is heavily weaved in throughout. This record follows his debut album released in 2020 titled “On The Other Side.”

When talking about the creation and inspiration of the record, Tarifa, the singer shared, “[I’m] so happy to finally share the music. I gave it my all and the journey of making it was one I really enjoyed, even in the difficult patches. The album reflects a chapter in my life full of joy, sadness and wonder, and will always be intertwined in my memory with the writing trip I took to Tarifa last winter.”

The immediate artist comparisons when listening to White are artists like Ben Platt, Shawn Mendes, and Hozier. White would fit right in with a line up like this. He has a strong, beautiful voice, and the Spanish sound is something that has continued to influence all genres. The first two tracks are “Giorando’s Dream (Part 1 and 2), and they have a very dream like state to them. With softer vocals and consistent synths, the production is built to be light and airy like the listener is walking on a cloud. It is a great way to introduce a concept album like this one.

Throughout the album on tracks like “Tarifa” and “Green Eyes,” White keeps a very singer/songwriter honest sound. He lets his vocals shine alongside a very polished production. Each song is another important element in the story that White is trying to tell. He proves that he is dimensional and an extremely strong musician. The final song “Riding on The Wind” ties back to the opening song, very dreamlike and slow. Still, it is powerful and talks about White’s travels and what he has learned along the way.

Overall Blanco White proves himself as an artist to watch. He is a musician and songwriter that shows he respects the craft of storytelling and puts his heart into the work that he releases. This album takes the listener on what must have been a similar journey for White, both emotionally and physically. Being able to set a certain location to music can be tricky but White does it with grace and ease. So be sure to stream “Tarifa” and be on the lookout for future releases!
