We had the pleasure of interviewing Young Bombs, and here’s what they had to say:
Q: What started your musical journey? Did you always know you’d become musicians?
YOUNG BOMBS: We both grew up in pretty musical households. Tristan’s mom had a pretty wicked record collection and my dad (Martin) was a drummer and played the piano, so it was a natural progression for the both of us. Since we’ve known each other it was always our dream to do this full-time and have a career around music.
Q: What did you enjoy the most about working with Deza?
YOUNG BOMBS: Not only is she one of the nicest people but she also sings every song in one or two takes max. It’s pretty insane.
Q: How did the idea for “Let You Down” develop?
YOUNG BOMBS: We wrote the song at a studio session in LA with the very talented Rollo Spreckley and DEZA. It was one of the most fluid writing sessions we’ve ever had. I think we wrote about 3 songs with them that day. This one in particular we actually wrote over an instrumental we had laying around. It felt like a therapy session in the best way possible. We all connected over past relationships that had left a scar on us and we channelled that energy into “Let You Down”. We ended up re-producing the track later on to better suit the emotion of the vocal and we are beyond stoked with how it turned out.
Q: What effect would you like your music to have on listeners?
YOUNG BOMBS: We’d like our music to soundtrack people’s lives. The way we get nostalgic for the music we grew up listening to, we hope our music has that kind of long-lasting effect.
Q: What is one aspect you would personally say is the most stressful about creating and putting music out?
YOUNG BOMBS: We can love our own production and our own songs that we write and put out in the world but we have zero control over how people respond to them and
it can be very stressful.
Q: Who’s one artist you believe has had a significant influence on your sound?
YOUNG BOMBS: Would probably have to answer Avicii on this one. We fell in love with his music early on and of course he had that massive song with Aloe Blacc“Wake Me Up” that was a huge hit, so when we got to work with Aloe Blacc on “Better Day”, it felt full circle for us. His music was just so incredible and his way with melodies was like nobody else.
