“Judy’s Heels – Live” by Amble

“Judy’s Heels – Live” by Amble appears almost simplistic at first. However, it is anything but. This song will have you falling in love with its rich, soulful vocals, soothing acoustics, and heartwarming lyrics. A treasure indeed. We had the pleasure of interviewing Amble, and here’s what they had to say:

Q: Hi, I know Amble is a “3 piece contemporary folk-based ensemble” made up of Robbie Cunningham, Ross McNerney, and you (Oisin McCaffrey). I’m curious; how do you balance each other out and what role does each member play in this ensemble? Could you briefly introduce yourselves?

AMBLE (MCCAFFREY): Robbie and I began casually sharing our original songs with each other about one year ago. This eventually resulted in the decision to formally record one of the tracks. Ross McNerney then entered the fold, being asked to play on the studio version. Ross (who has a prior pedigree with the band ‘Brave Giant’ thought the repertoire of songs was too good not to peruse properly! And Amble was formed.

Q: What was the songwriting process for “Judy’s Heel”?

AMBLE (MCCAFFREY): Robbie (lead vocal) wrote Judy’s Heels over the course of deep covid 19 lockdown week, where he himself contracted the virus, and had to sit alone in a bedroom composing music for the week!

Q: I’m in love with the rich and soulful lead vocals on this song! How did you create this tune? Was it something that flowed at once or did you get like little bits stuck in your head until you created the full thing?

AMBLE (MCCAFREY): The full flow of the song came very quickly for Robbie, as a means of escapism from the very dull state of Ireland during the covid-19 years.

Q: What is your favorite aspect of the production process?

AMBLE (MCCAFFREY): Our favourite aspect of the production is creating the clearest vocal sound we can! It is all about the lyrics for Amble.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being musicians and what do you think is a not-so-great aspect about it?

AMBLE (MCCAFFREY): The best part of being musicians together is the shared experience of bringing our songs to life, and each member of the band enhances the sound. Robbie generally on lead vocal, Oisin on harmonies, and Ross on the bouzouki/mandolin – making it sing!

Q: What is one thing you’re all really looking forward to achieving musically this year?

AMBLE (MCCAFFREY): Musically the number one goal this year is to compose our debut album. We have lots of songs!!!
