Julian Maverick (Scott Nunan) passes across an urgent message about the declining state of the climate and the need for change to restore the natural balance of the ocean and reduce plastic waste in his catchy new release, “PLASTIC SEA.” We had the pleasure of interviewing Julian Maverick, and here’s what he had to say:
Q: I like the powerful message of “PLASTIC SEA”! How are you hoping listeners will react to this song?
MAVERICK: Good question, I’m not sure I write with the intention of wanting any reaction but I guess the obvious answer would be to inspire change towards a cleaner, more sustainable world.
Q: I like how you turned this important message into a catchy song. What was your creative process for this song?
MAVERICK: Started as a song on the acoustic, I think I recorded most of the vocals to the guitar also – then I replaced the acoustic with the electric guitar in the recording and built the production around the vocals in my home studio later on, with some different kit including synths OB-6 & MS20. I had been playing around with that mix for some time, and had saved a few different versions of the same song and this was the version I choose to release.
Q: Could you tell us a bit about your environmental activism and how you think it has influenced your sound?
MAVERICK: Geez, I should probably be doing more since writing such a preachy song haha, I am a member of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and will be involved in those events and chapters this year along with any clean-up activities I can be a part of.
Q: Good luck! In what way(s), do you think your sound has evolved since the beginning of your career?
MAVERICK: I’ve kind of produced different genres in the past, some house, some chilled. Now I guess as life has gone on, I don’t really stick to one genre anymore; I just produce whatever I feel like, so that has been the biggest evolution with my still “hobby” as I still have a day job, haha.
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t working on music?
MAVERICK: Eating, connecting with nature, going to the beach, exploring new places spontaneously, hanging with my partner and friends, and traveling when I actually have annual leave haha.
Q: What projects are you currently working on?
MAVERICK: Collaborate as much as I can. Release at least one single per month and do some gigs!
