“Admit It” by Sari

Sari has described her latest release, “Admit It,” as “a 21st century confront a cheater break up song!” Going by the lyrics, this is an apt description. If you feel like letting off some steam, this is a good song to add to your playlist. We had the pleasure of interviewing Sari, and here’s what she had to say:

Q: I like how well-written “Admit it” is! What inspired this song?

SARI: “Admit It” was inspired by my own experience in an important romantic relationship that was dear to me. I realized many people have had similar experiences and this is part of a modern-day romance. It is the journey of a confrontation of catching someone you care about red-handed with also the realization that while you are hurting you are also potentially the villain in someone else’s story. If I figured this out, has the other person? This song is based on conversations and situations that happen when dating in today’s complex social environment. We live in a romantic society, where lines are continuously blurred and people are looking for the next best thing and some quick validation.

Q: Did you have a clear direction/idea of how you wanted it to sound before you started creating it or did it come to you in bits and pieces?

SARI: This piece was stitched together from some old writing and some new. I usually have a clear concept, I know my vision and how I want things to sound but this time it came little by little. I knew that I wanted to build some anticipation leading up to the chorus to represent that initial shock factor before the confrontation. Even though this came in small pieces over a longer period of time during my writing process I am so happy with how everything turned out!

Q: What effect do you want your music to have on listeners?

SARI: My hope is through my storytelling and music, listeners feel less alone in whatever they are going through at that time. I gravitate towards music that I can feel in my soul, which helps me heal and changes my perspective. I hope that my writing and music have the same effect on others.

Q: At what point did you realize or decide to pursue your path as a musician?

SARI: Music has always been a huge part of my life and has had such an impact on getting me through some of the hardest times in my life. From a very young age, I knew I wanted to connect with people through music just like I had connected with some of my favorite artists at different points in my life.

Q: If you could collaborate with any artist in the world right now, who would you love to work with? Why?

SARI: This is a tough question because there are so many talented artists I’d love to work with. Right now, I would love to work with Kamille, I am fascinated by her writing style, she is a force to be reckoned with. Kamille has written some of my favorite tracks over the past few years. I can’t wait to see what she does next. If Kamille and I collaborated, we would create some dope music!

Q: What is one good piece of advice you’ve received as a musician that you think would help other artists?

SARI: Stay true to yourself, be authentic, and stay focused on why you started your journey. Everyone has a different story to tell and there is someone out there who will connect to yours so don’t be afraid to own your vulnerability and flaws. You never know who you could inspire to take the first step by sharing your story.
