There is a lot of turmoil whirling around the confines of “Better” by AJ Smith, but with his ability to twist the negatives into a positive, the world has an anthemic new pop song to sing their heart out to.
“Better” paints a variety of pictures. On my first listen I felt like this was a song aimed at a loved one, perhaps a parent a child yearns to be approved by. Listening again, I thought – is this to a friend, or perhaps is “Better” a song to one’s inner self, that inner saboteur we all face in the mirror from time to time? With so many interpretations now whirling around in my head, I came to the conclusion that you can take “Better” and apply it to all of the above as it’s a song about facing the person (or yourself) and finally laying it all out on the table, and putting their toxicity out on display.
The heartfelt cries let out by AJ Smith are only heightened by the stunning video that accompanies his latest single. Inspired by Brad Pitt’s ‘Fight Club,’ AJ Smith shows two sides of a therapeutic coin; traditional therapy and boxing it out. The video is not surprising given that “Nobody” from earlier this year seemed to pay homage to a little Netflix show by the name of ‘Bridgeton.’ With a cinematic eye, AJ Smith delivers both musically and visually every time.
