“Drive Away” – Krewella

Somewhere between the rave scene of the late ‘90s and today, the message of what EDM means got lost. To outsiders, it’s just robotic sounds playing very loudly in the middle of nowhere as a sea of people in neon dance. In reality, EDM is just like any other genre, a mixed bag of emotions strewn across a musical landscape. At least that’s what you get when you take on “Drive Away” by Krewella.

The latest single from their 2022 release, ‘The Body Never Lies,’ “Drive Away” comes through like an electronic meets pop song right off the bat from the music to the emotive lyricism that captures the attention and holds tight. “All I got is chaos underneath the surface” is a straightforward but pretty poignant sentiment that many today can relate to as the world continues to drive us further away from a form of normalcy and quite frankly, sanity. The electronic moments are light at first but as soon as that first big wave comes crashing down, that’s when Krewella lets those trap-inspired moments shine. However, I always went back to what they had to say as lines like “just another tainted soul” were striking and made this song feel like it had heart, a worn one, but a heart nevertheless.

It has been 20 years since Krewella dropped their self-titled EP and started to make a name for themselves. In between then and now they’ve been highlighted in Forbes, and played almost every major music festival under the sun from Coachella to EDC Las Vegas to Lollapalooza. With ‘The Body Never Lies,’ fans can expect to see this passionate pair on the road in the US starting in April, and beyond this summer.
