“Resist” – Michael Stolar

Michael Stolar took very personal moments and laid them out on a universal plain because the things he’s faced as part of the LGBTQ+ community are unfortunately not unique. Many have had their fair share of struggles, but this New York-based singer wants everyone to know they are not alone and has done so by creating “Resist,” an anthemic electro-pop song that will not only move your heart but also make you move that body.

Whenever someone comes through with a song labeled as an anthem of sorts, my mind instantly thinks it’s going to be this dramatic ballad much like “Rise Up” from Andra Day. A great song, absolutely nothing wrong with those types of power ballads that make our hearts fill full but…Michael Stolar proves that you can also deliver the same sentiments with synthpop vibes. Which is what he’s done with “Resist.” There is something very theatrical about the way “Resist” opens with the manic, quick-paced delivery that then guides us towards a build-up right before the chorus, which is when your body can’t resist bopping along.

It’s easy to groove along to this song and miss the heartfelt message Michael Stolar is singing as you’re having a good time. So I advise giving “Resist” multiple listens so that you can enjoy it on every level from the beautifully done lyrics to the electro-pop arrangement.
