Artist Interview: “ICNLY” by Shy Honey

Q: We love your new song ‘ICNLY’! Can you tell us what the inspiration is behind it?

SHY HONEY: This is a song about the way two people continually try to make a relationship work because they “love” each other, but they just cannot seem to meet on common ground. They end up spiraling into bad patterns and constant arguing, and sure enough, they are back in the same “stuck” place… ICNLY is saying we can’t and don’t love one another because this isn’t LOVE. Love is not supposed to feel this way.

Q: How did you come up with the name ‘Shy Honey’?

SHY HONEY: I have been described as having a soft voice and a more introverted demeanor, and my voice has been described as “sweet” or “honey dripped”.

Q: Your music is very electro-pop and synth heavy with lots of 80s vibes. Could you tell us who some of your biggest influences are?

SHY HONEY: Yes, my biggest influences are MGMT, St. Lucia, Cyndi Lauper, Chvrches, and Haim.

Q: What is your songwriting process like?

SHY HONEY: I usually start writing on my piano and then go from there. I will have a melodic hook or a lyric idea, and then I will just build on it! I usually make a demo at my home studio before going into full production in the studio.

Q: You had the amazing chance to perform at Aladdin Theatre as opener for former Bachelorette, Kaitlyn Bristowe’s podcast “Off the Vine” – a People’s Choice Award nominated podcast. Can you tell us what that experience was like for you?

SHY HONEY: That night was AMAZING! Kaitlyn is truly the sweetest person, and she treated us so well — and we had such a blast. We are a new band so playing in front of a screaming crowd of people in a packed theater was totally exhilarating. The show was SOLD OUT!! So we felt so fortunate to play that night. The fans were so kind to us and we loved getting to be a part of the live podcast. 🙂 I can’t wait to play a show like that again! Since things are re-opening more, I hope to get to do a larger show soon.

Q: What are you working on now?

SHY HONEY: Right now we are working on some more singles, and we have a show on DEC 11 in Portland, OR. So we are excited to get back to playing live again. I hope to do a full length album soon. Maybe in 2022!
