“VIOLET” – Glass Mansions

Alt-rock/pop duo Glass Mansion’s latest track, “VIOLET,” is a hard-hitting, moody song with an exhilarating melody that will immediately grab any listener’s attention. Accompanied by an equally as powerful music video, “VIOLET” serves as a powerful message to our generation – a call for action to reclaim our true selves. In a world where social media often dictates how we portray ourselves online, many have lost sight of their identity. “VIOLET” can be seen as a metaphor for the turmoil induced by the artificial happiness of social media and the digital world.

“VIOLET” opens with an electrifying intro, immediately displaying the type of track this will be – a heavy-hitter. In the music video, lead singer Jayna Doyle is seen running – from what the audience doesn’t yet know. Throughout the video, words such as “Denial,” “Anger,” and “Bargaining” are displayed in giant capital letters across the screen, which all also happen to be the stages of grief.

The tongue-in-cheek references in the song and music video offer a deeper look into the digital world and social media, as we, as a society, are not even aware of the extent to which it is damaging us. These words serve not only stages of grief but also capture a visual of Doyle running away from trauma. Throughout the music video, Doyle is seen falling and cutting herself, possibly serving as a metaphor for cutting herself away from her past self and not giving into the void that is social media.

“VIOLET” is the third song in a three-part video series, preceded by “Standing O,” where Doyle is still tied to her past, and “Nearsighted,” where she is seen stuck in a “self-inflicted purgatory.” As intense as these comparisons may sound, they truly aren’t, as we constantly put ourselves in self-inflicted pain trying to perfect our social media lives, but sometimes not putting the same focus on our real ones.

Glass Mansions is an alt-pop duo from Austin, Texas. Their latest single, “VIOLET” can be found on all major music streaming platforms. Do yourself a favor and take a listen today!
