“Optimist” by Sloan Treacy

Sloan Treacy’s track “Optimist” is a raw depiction of optimism and the ways in which it isn’t always the brightest. It came out on May 2, 2025.

“Optimist” is a track that uses an opening guitar instrumental that’s simplistic and builds with bass and percussion added further in before another pickup with more instrumentation. It’s a slow build at first, but it makes sure to keep the pacing dynamic. It pulls back at times so more energetic hits can be delivered, and it finds the right timing to do so and keep the flow captivating. The production style is raw, and the bass has a punchy buzz mixed with bright, plucky guitars and smooth vocals. Though they hit different sounds, they find cohesion through the mix.

The lyrical narrative in “Optimist” is well-crafted. It’s about being an optimist, but it’s so much more in the way it provides an emotional take. It captures what it’s like to see the positives to a point where it can be a double-edged sword. “’Cause you do dumb things you’re not thinkin’ / and you call yourself an optimist.” It tackles the vocal narrative of someone who is with, or connected with, a self-perscribed optimist. This voice refuses to go along with the optimism due to its pitfalls.
