“Angry Horses” by Stefan J. Selbert

“Angry Horses” by Stefan J. Selbert is beautiful at capturing how pain can affect the mundane.

“Angry Horses” hits melancholic tones with the benefit of having raw sonics but a clear mix. It hits the indie rock tone that has a full band with a lot of atmosphere and an introspective flow. It has a buzziness to it that actually plays into the lyricism and overall sound quite a bit. The vocal production is raw, and it allows pained vocal wavers and strong belts to be delivered in a way where the emotion shines solely through how the vocals are delivered. Additionally, dynamic vocal filtering pulls out an ever-evolving sound that adds to the performance. This track is cohesive, and that extends past the music and into the lyricism.

Lyrically, this track does well at storytelling, which comes from a narrative that comes from the real life of  Stefan J. Selbert, who is a cattle rancher. It does so by meshing in emotions that go into the mundane day-to-day after the end of a relationship. It tells the story of someone waking up early in the morning to make their bed and get out to work on the ranch, and it covers the perceptions of angry horses at the change the main narrator has gone through. It’s interesting the way that it takes the idea of a large life change and how it can affect the unchanged parts of everyday life.
