Wryn has just released their new single “Only Thing,” on March 13, 2025!
Wryn’s brand new single “Only Thing,” part of an upcoming album called Shapes, is a poignant and poetic delve into the idea of change. The main instrumentation works with a captivating bass riff and moderate percussive drive that pulls everything forward. This is a track that isn’t rushed or too slow, it keeps a steady pace. And, that seems to be a purposeful choice that allows listeners to focus on the lyrics which come with full but soft vocals that range between a lower alto and higher tenor sound. Though this isn’t a spoken word track, it feels like Wryn is speaking to listeners, sharing their deep thoughts and emotions.
Lyrically, this track is poetic in nature. It strays from being to the point. That being said, it does so in a sense that allows listeners to take the words and relate them to their own life. The chorus goes, “I’m tired staring at the wall / I’m scared of things that I don’t know / foresee what the future holds / I grasp before I can let go.” Overall, it expresses being fearful of the unknown, the struggle to let go of the past, and the acceptance of the inevitability of change. And yeah, change is inevitable, the past is hard to let go, and the unknown is scary. Overall, this is one of those tracks that feels universally relatable.
Four years ago, Wryn took time to reassess trauma and search into their innermost being. From this came their artist name. It comes from their last name and goes to show an evolution in sound, reassessment of trauma and PTSD, and transformation in terms of gender. These subjects are the ones that build into Wryn’s upcoming album Shapes, of which “Only Thing” is a part. This album’s creation began in July 2021, and it benefits from the production and mixing of Bella Blasko. Every track from this album so far has had an important narrative to tell, so let’s see how it builds moving forward!
