“Perpetual Change” – The Ram

Singer-songwriter The Ram’s latest song, “Perpetual Change,” is a reflective, catchy, nostalgic body of art. The self-titled EP highlights the track, consisting of three versions, including an instrumental and a live version. The song feels like a blast from the past in the best way possible–the ram’s deep-toned, Johnny Cash-esque vocals, jangly guitars, hard-hitting drums, and fun-loving keyboard instrumental all highlight his timeless sound.

“Perpetual Change” begins with the studio version, introducing listeners to the ram’s unique sound. Lyrically, the track discusses how the world is ever-changing. Life is short–don’t take any time for granted, focus on only what we can control, and live life to the fullest are some topics tackled within “Perpetual Change.” Although the premise may sound simple, the constant changes in one’s personal life are complicated, and The Ram tackles these topics eloquently in his music.

Musically, “Perpetual Change” consists of slow-building guitar and drums and a solo featuring an ultra-addicting melody, guaranteed to abide in anyone’s ears for days. The live version has a more extended version of this solo, played on the keyboard, giving an uplifting, unique aspect to the track, adding to the ever-changing of life.

The lyrics, “Each day we rise is a gift of, unspeakable cost; The only thing guaranteed is that all’s not lost; People come, drift away; The love they bring is everything; Everything, everything,” highlight the everflowing way of life and how, although sad at times, it is beautiful.
